Thematic Areas

Nyaka works with rural communities in Uganda to ensure that children, especially those raised by grandmothers and in fragile households, can learn, stay healthy, live safely, and build secure futures. Through education and opportunity, health and protection services, and women-led livelihoods and climate resilience initiatives, Nyaka strengthens families and local systems so communities can lead lasting change.

Education

The education program delivers inclusive, quality schooling from nursery through secondary level, with pathways into vocational training and university for those who are ready.

Libraries & Learning Spaces

The Libraries & Learning Spaces program brings community- and school-linked libraries, book clubs, and mobile library services to children, youth, grandmothers, and wider community members who would otherwise have little access to information or reading materials.

Alumni and Leadership Network

The Alumni & Leadership Network connects former Nyaka learners into a growing community of mentors, advocates, and philanthropists who give back to the next generation.

Grandmothers (Community Care & Economic Strengthening)

The Grandmothers Program organises these women into community-led groups where they support one another through shared care, savings, micro-enterprise, home improvements, and local advocacy.

Farm & Forestry

The Farm & Forestry Program supplies the school kitchen with energy and foodstuffs, sustaining a 100% meals-at-school rate among Nyaka students, 46 percentage points above comparable schools in the region.

Health, Nutrition and Mental Wellbeing

The Health, Nutrition and Mental Wellbeing Program delivers school and community-based health services including clinical care, nutrition support, dental services, immunisation, HIV treatment and care, and mental health and psychosocial support.

SGBV & Child Sexual Abuse Prevention and Response

The SGBV & CSA Prevention and Response programme combines community-level prevention, survivor-centred case management, psychosocial support, and justice pathways for children, especially girls, women, and adolescents.
