Dinah’s Journey: Farming Her Way to a Brighter Future

At 61, Tumwekwatse Dinah, a retired teacher from Rubanda, is not slowing down. Despite living with arthritis, which limits her mobility, Dinah remains the backbone of her family as a grandmother and foster mother to four children. Her unwavering spirit and passion for farming have helped her turn adversity into opportunity.

With a small plot of land and big dreams, Dinah raises cows, goats, sheep, and chickens both to feed her household and to generate income. Her turning point came when she joined a grandmother group supported by Nyaka. Through this group, Dinah received a UGX 400,000 microloan from a revolving fund provided by Women Empowerment International.

She used the funds wisely investing in high-quality animal feed and purchasing young goats to expand her herd. Alongside the financial support, Dinah also received valuable microbusiness training. With the knowledge gained and encouragement from fellow grandmothers, she has grown her agribusiness into a sustainable source of income.

Today, Dinah’s farm is thriving. The animals are healthier, the yields are better, and the returns are helping her provide for the children under her care. Her story is a powerful reminder that with the right support, even the most vulnerable can build resilience and secure a better future.

“Thank you Nyaka and all well-wishers,” She smiled.

Dinah is not just surviving, she’s leading with purpose and growing a legacy of strength and self-reliance.
