Dear Friends,
On August 30th, I set out to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Step by step, I am making my way up the mountain, and if all goes well, I will stand at the very top on my birthday, September 3rd.
But this climb is not about me. My heart is with the grandmothers (Mukakas), who inspire me every single day. When Nyaka first began, it started with one grandmother taking in five orphaned children. I still remember her strength, her hands rough from farming, and yet her heart so full of love that she became everything those children needed.
From that one grandmother, we have grown to 23,000 Mukakas caring for 97,000 children today. That is the true mountain we have climbed together.
And yet, there are thousands more waiting. As I climb Kilimanjaro, my dream is to reach 1000 more grandmothers with the support they need. I hope to raise $55 for each grandmother, totaling $55,000.
